CITY GUIDE AUSTRALIA

Private jet charter and flights to the Great Ocean Road

Up there with the world’s most scenic coastal drives, Victoria’s Great Ocean Road is the most popular trip to make in Australia. Take your time navigating the twists and turns of the open road as it winds along the coastline, see limestone formations rising out of the ocean, stop to relax on golden beaches, and eat at home-run restaurants in charming fishing villages.

Distances in Australia are huge, so if you’re combining a drive along the Great Ocean Road with other iconic spots, a private charter is a great way to get between key attractions. Air Charter Service can help you charter flights to the Great Ocean Road so you can spend more time exploring the land down under. Experience it all, charter a private jet today.

Six million holidaymakers take to the Great Ocean Road each year. Its official start point is the surf town of Torquay (around an hour and a half’s drive from the centre of Melbourne), travelling 150 miles west to just outside of Warrnambool, although most people continue on to Port Fairy. We recommend taking at least three days to drive the Great Ocean Road so that you can make plenty of stops.

The most famous attraction along the Great Ocean Road is the 12 Apostles: rugged rock stacks that rise out of the Southern Ocean. Formed by erosion, the six stacks that remain offer some of the best photo opportunities in Victoria. The 12 Apostles viewing platform (about a four-hour drive from Melbourne) can get very busy, so head there as early as you can – the bonus is that you’ll get to watch the sun rise over the ocean. Head down the Gibson Steps (all 86 of them) to view the stacks up close. Nearby Loch Ard Gorge and London Arch are two other popular stops, where you can read about the history of the Loch Ard shipwreck and explore the coastal trails.

There are plenty of reasons to get back to nature, too. The Great Otway National Park is known for its waterfalls and fern gullies, with great walks and adventure activities. If you want to get out on the water, the Great Ocean Road has some of Australia’s top surf spots. Bells Beach is one of the best – it hosts the Rip Curl Pro every Easter and you’ll find amateurs and pros hitting the waves from March to October.

The pretty towns along the Great Ocean Road are full of charm and have great places to eat. Lorne (around two hours from Melbourne) has a lovely café culture and restaurants that front its beautiful beach. The seaside village of Apollo Bay (around three hours from Melbourne) is known for its mouth-watering seafood, while the fishing town of Port Fairy has streets lined with gorgeous 19th-Century cottages and arts and craft stores. The best of the accommodation along the Great Ocean Road comes in the form of boutique hotels and guesthouses, often serving fresh local produce and local wines.

Air Charter Service can help you charter flights to the Great Ocean Road. Depending on how much of the Great Ocean Road you want to drive, you could fly into Melbourne Airport or Avalon Airport a 35-minute drive from Torquay), then out of an airport at the end of the route such as Warrnambool Airport. We have offices worldwide so why not contact one of our team and we will arrange everything you need to charter a private jet to the Great Ocean Road.
