Chartering athletes to Beijing and Sochi for the Luge World Cup

In September 2021, we received a request from the International Luge Federation to help transport luge athletes to Beijing and then onto Sochi for the Luge World Cup - an event considered a prelude to the Beijing Winter Olympics. Over 300 athletes and staff, as well as their 23-tonnes worth of baggage, needed to fly from Frankfurt to Beijing and then onto Sochi for the next leg of the tournament. Not only that, but with under a month until the charter, none of the prospective passengers had the correct visa documentation to enter China, meaning our team had to work around the clock with government organisations to ensure the flights were completed smoothly.

Our Solution

Route: Frankfurt > Beijing > Sochi 

Aircraft: Airbus 330-300

Our team sourced an Airbus 330-300 for the charter - a modern aircraft with the capability of seating up to 380 passengers at a time. For the tricky matter of visa documentation and Covid-19 protocols, an experienced team charter specialist was assigned throughout the process to ensure the passengers and equipment entered and left China without any issues. Following the end of the event in Beijing, our team waited outside the cargo terminal for seven hours in the blistering cold to make sure all the athletes safely departed onto Sochi.
