About the Australian Grand Prix
Australia’s grand prix dates back to 1928, but it didn’t join the Formula One World Championship until 1985. The race was originally held at the popular Adelaide Street Circuit, but promoter and former driver Bob Jane dreamt of taking it to Melbourne – and in 1996 his ambition was realised when it relocated to Albert Park, just south of Melbourne’s city centre.
Today the Australian Grand Prix is one of the most popular dates on the Formula One calendar, thanks to its beautiful setting and lively atmosphere. Fans can watch drivers test out the track during practice sessions on the first two days, before the action escalates on the penultimate day as they compete for pole position in qualifying sessions. The thrilling main event takes place on the fourth and final day and promises plenty of drama.
